Why can’t I lose weight?
A client recently complained about not being able to lose weight.
Here are the most likely reasons why we either lose the momentum of the weight loss of or why we can not lose weight in general.
Do you skip breakfast?
When you wake up you need to feel hungry. If you have been up for more than a few hours and you still don’t feel hungry think about how much you ate the night before. Breakfast is a must to jump start your metabolism for the day. It should be a principle to never skip it. Make sure you have healthy carbs and protein included.
Are you only drinking water?
If not, what else are you drinking throughout the day? Sodas, and even the Starbuck drinks all have A LOT OF sugar in them.
Dieting?
In the beginning you lose weight with any diet because you are eating less. However with any aggressive diet based on a calorie count, eventually your body will think that it needs to protect you from starvation and will slow your metabolism. You will burn less calories and each bite you take will be stored as fat. Best choice is not to diet but to have balanced and healthy nutrition. Not sure what that looks like? Reach out to a nutritionist to get a nutrition plan that fits you and your lifestyle best.
Are you stressed out?
Research says that when we are stressed out we seek out sugary and fatty foods. The reason for that is that stress increases the cortisol hormone, which increases insulin, your blood sugar levels drop, and voila! Hello sugary fatty foods. Every time you feel stressed out make an intention to pause and take 5 long breaths instead.
Do you move daily?
If you skip movement it will catch up with you. In fact, recent research proves that our bodies will atrophy from lack of movement within as short a period of 2 weeks of physical inactivity! This means parts of our body wastes away, especially as a result of the degeneration of cells. Simply due to lack of movement. Eat your proteins to support your muscles to grow and then move daily. Walk. If walking is hard, swim or do water aerobic exercises, strengthen your muscles. Find your “move.” Start with 10 minutes a day in the morning.
Do you sleep deep and enough?
If you are not getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep a night, it will show everywhere in life. Foggy brain, impatient demeanor, lack of energy. In addition, research shows that when we are tired we reach for unhealthy foods to fight fatigue. Turn off electronics at least 2 hours prior to going to bed. Make sure your bedroom is dark and quiet. Take several calm, long breaths in your bed before you fall a sleep.
